Hallmarking :
Gold and silver jewellery and other articles satisfying Bureau of Indian Standards guidelines for manufacture of Gold jewellery as per IS-1417 and IS – 2112 respectively, are segregated into lots based on product information provided by the client. This is essential for getting the most representative samples from a variety of traditional Indian jewellery intricate in design and made of multiple components soldered together.
Few of the selected pieces out of each lot are scraped from appropriate locations based on design/manufacturing criteria. The scrapped gold/silver is then accurately weighed on precision balance (0.001mg accuracy) and subjected to fire assaying in case of gold and gravimetric method in case of Silver as per the applicable Indian Standards specification, i.e., IS-1418 or IS-2113. Once the fineness of the samples is found as per the declared purity, the representative jewellery/artefacts lots undergo hallmarking.
The hallmarking of Gold jewellery is carried out by Laser Marking machine. Laser marking is a non-impact method and does not cause sinking or bruising damages.
